Our People

“I vow and believe that the cigar has been one of the greatest creature comforts of my life. A kind companion, a gentle stimulant, an amiable anodyne, a cementer of friendship.”
William Makepeace Thackeray

our founders

Scott Vines and Ricardo Carioni are respectively the CEO and the Chairman of the Diplomatic Cigar Club. They met in London in 2016 and founded the Club in 2019. They're on a mission to open up and share their knowledge and passion about the handcrafted premium cigar industry, culture, tradition, ideas and trends, but more importantly, to deepen the knowledge of the value and importance of this primarily family owned artisanal industry, and what positivity it brings to local and international communities. They also endeavour to promote its sustainability, equality, diversity and inclusion, supporting initiatives with a fundamentally social and environmental impact, focused on education, human development and climate action.

A successful Director for more than 35 years, Scott has spent the last 20 of them steeped in the tobacco business. "Five years ago, on our first TorTour, I was fortunate enough to spend quality time with the Master, Jose Orlando Padrón at his office in Little Havana. A true icon of the industry, I cherished our time together, listening to his story of hardship to success, along with many words of encouragement. . This picture hangs above my desk in my office to remind myself on a daily basis what can be achieved with hard work, determination, skill....and fun."

“As a cigar lover and a working diplomat, I have long and firmly believed in the power of cigar diplomacy... one of the most enjoyable and effective instruments in our diplomatic toolkit to help facilitate dialogue, to forge relationships, friendships and alliances, and for better understanding between peoples, nations and cultures. Cigars are a most beautiful expression of our millenary heritage and tradition, of the handcraft and love of our farmers and artisans, of the creativity of our master blenders, of the vision and excellence of our producers, of the knowledge and resilience of the tradesmen and women."
